Look at those Kings.

Not just here for Diplo, this was the record that made me fall in love with the collective work of Skirllex. Jack Ü’s debut effort is an explosion of jolted dance floor brilliance, giving a phenomenal and unique sheen to sounds we’re already somewhat familiar with. If anything, on Jack Ü these sounds are larger than life, a colossal triumph.

One of the first “big” albums to be released this year, February’s arrival of Skrillex and Diplo present Jack Ü came onto the scene just as the Australian summer began to wrap-up. Sharp levels of sun, the last remaining days of Beach Freedom and drives to and from the coast – Jack Ü’s debut soundtracked all of that for me, expanding my mind beyond what I had come to expect from dance music whilst filling it with enough hooks and sharp-turns to satisfy the pop nut within.

And much like many of the greatest, classic records of all time, Jack Ü racks up a total of nine songs, never overstaying its welcome and finessing the absolute best into a cohesive journey. The more commercial cuts like “Where Are Ü Now” with Bieber and “Take Ü There” with Kiesza have already made a significant cultural impact, but it’s relentless cuts like “Febreze” (with the consistent 2 Chainz), “Beats Knockin’” (with Fly Boi Keno), and the blood-pressure-elevator that is “Holla Out” (with Snails and Taranchyla) which all serve as the definitive, hallmark moments on Jack Ü.

Thoroughly anticipating a Jack Ü Australian Tour, and also hoping that Diplo drops a bit of ‘Febreze’ or ‘Holla Out’ at his Stereosonic DJ set this Saturday (and, on a somewhat unrelated note, I also hope, nay – pray – that he plays “Bitch I’m Madonna”. Preferably the Diplo Remix but I will definitely be happy with any of them really.)

You can listen to the Jack Ü album on Spotify, and buy the record on iTunes.
